Our Mission The Northern Connecticut Neonatal-Perinatal Collaborative works to promote high quality maternal and newborn care across the continuum of acuity, from the community hospital to the neonatal intensive care environment by:
- Facilitating cooperation among hospitals and health care providers
- Supporting evidence-based newborn care practices
- Sharing educational and training resources
- Gathering data that informs members and other stakeholders
Welcome to the Northern Connecticut Neonatal-Perinatal Collaborative website. The development of this resource for maternal and newborn care providers is a direct outgrowth of the First Annual State of the Region Newborn Care conference held in November 2008. Attendees from 19 hospitals across northern Connecticut embraced opportunities to promote cooperation and collaboration to improve the health of Connecticut's newborns. Common challenges in newborn care emerged in these discussions including workforce concerns, needs for educational and clinical support, and venues to develop and maintain competencies in critical resuscitation/stabilization skills.
The most recent meeting, December 2011, addressed the increasing numbers of late pre-term and early term births. An outcome of the meeting was a commitment to launching a regional/statewide initiative to decrease non-medically indicated elective deliveries at less than 39 weeks gestation.
This website provides a platform for communication among member hospitals, as well as maternal and newborn care providers to address these concerns. We hope to share information on educational events, timely educational resources, and data that measures the heatlh and well-being of our newborns.
We are eager to hear your feedback on the website. Let us know what you like and how we can be more helpful. Please send questions, comments, or suggestions to msander@ccmckids.org .
